QotD: I Was Sold
Have you ever purchased something from an infomercial?
Submitted by Colleen.
Yes. *covers face in shame with hands* TWICE! *shouts into hands*.
Bought some stupid scent pen that was supposed to suppress appetites.... (WHAT IN THE...?!) I wasn't thinking. It was an impulse. Not only did it not work, it dried up after a week! Rip off!
Did this waste of money stop me from ever making another purchase after the "Call now!" started flashing on the screen after sitting through two-minutes of product pushing?
No.
Later that same year I bought a pseudo treadmill. A contraption for stationary walking - two pedals hanging from metal rods attached to a treadmill-like frame. It worked fine until ten-minutes into a workout when it would give off this high-pitched screech similar to the sound of nails on a chalkboard. The torment! The shame! The whole neighborhood was alerted to when I was on that thing. SCREEEECH-SCREEEECH-SCREEEECH. No amount of grease, or WD-40 or oil could get it to shut up.
So I sold it at a garage sale.
Don't own a tv set these days (not because of these two episodes in my life) but I still come across products sold "exclusively" through tv at department stores in the Philippines. Complete with salesperson wearing a funky headset mic doing a live demo on the products. Have I bought anything this way? A cheap steam iron that does the trick.

But I still want the K-Tel Quickchill ice cream maker. >':
Ripoffs suck. Don't they have a warranty?
