Schools are coming closer to starting once again, any particular memories/thoughts associated with this time of year? Submitted by Chuck
I grew up in Portland, OR before my mom moved us back to the Philippines when I was twelve. School years begin in June there so since returning to the US last year - after 27 years overseas - it's been a new experience to see things through new yet familiar eyes. All the ads for back to school shopping bring back my childhood in the Pacific Northwest. Being an only child, I was spoiled to the point that I never repeated my clothes! My teacher asked my mom one day if we owned a dress/ clothing shop because I always went to school in nice outfits. Little did she know that my mom had a great eye for bargains. Every year before school started, we would hit JC Penny's, Montgomery Ward, KMart, Payless and Fred Meyer for my clothes.
My mom passed away in 1997 and since moving back here, I think of her often and fondly remember her when I drive by the ubiquitous KMart or see the Blue Light mascot dude on TV. "Attention KMart shoppers!" used to have us dashing through the aisles. She would have gotten a kick out of the little cartoon guy. I must admit though that since coming back, I haven't set foot in a KMart. I'm afraid I'll cry. Or maybe, I've just discovered another good bargain place called WalMart.
What would you consider to be your 15 minutes of fame so far in life?
July 13, 1998 to March 10, 2003.
Zach and Joey in the Morning on NU 107 DWNU 107.5FM.
It came complete with Philippine celebrity guests that ranged from models, actors, bands, magazine editors, movie premieres, product launches, the works. We even got to interview photographer R. Ian Lloyd of National Geographic and world-famous entomologist Georges Brossard.
Hands down some of the best years of my life. And regretfully, some of my wildest.
My partner, Zach, has since continued being a celebrity. He plays the drums for local rock group, Imago.
This was us in FWD Magazine. And this was me doing the 'rockstar hair' thing.
Nowadays, of course, I'm totally anonymous.
What celebrity do you most often get told you resemble?

To my delight and to her chagrin, we've been mistaken for sisters, cousins, friends, aunt and niece, but rarely mother and daughter.
Here I am with the future famous ballerina I am proud to call my kid.
How well does your name Google? Who are you up against? (Celebrities, etc.)
Submitted by Matt Blank.
Very well. More so since I started blogging prolifically. It's all me on Google up until page 3 where others pop up - either not me's or a mixture of either my first or last name standing alone.
A friend explained that Google changes its metrics on searching/finding, so in the past, when I could barely find myself, I am now easy to find because of the comments I leave on others' blogs and because I blog, blog, blog. Getting linked to and from has also pushed me up in the search.
Two published articles I wrote also pop up here and here. The former was copied by the owner of the blog and pasted in its entirety (with credit attributed to me by virtue of including my name) and the latter is a cached version from a website I presume is now... gone, called Herword.com.
Googling my former morning show with - zach and joey nu 107 - produces us up until page 4 albeit sporadically from there onwards.
I'm not up against any really famous people. And I'm happy to see that self-definition on the web certainly beats others-definition any day. Want to pick my brain? Google me.
Great question by the way. I tumbld it the other day and didn't think of suggesting it for QotD. Demn. Vox-fame eludes me still. *continues search to make it to TIG*
What websites do you visit every day?
Submitted by Chez Michelle.
Forgive me for sounding narcissistic but I have to say, my various blogs - WordPress, Blogger, Multiply and my fave, VOX. *covers mouth and giggles*
Then I open my BlogRovr and open up other people's blogs which now total ten. My current fave is Frivolous Motion.
While reading all of these, it is crucial that I have another tab open on Firefox that has the office website - Every Nation. Need to make sure content is up to date and must write/upload something if it's not.
When I need a shot of deep Christian revelations, I head on over to My Utmost For His Highest.
And since I check my Hotmail at least once a day, I end up lingering on the MSN page when I Logout and find myself drawn into the... Entertainment section. The fashion faux pas are absolutely hilarious!
Of course, must not forget my Twitterholicism. Everyday, I keep a tab open with my Twitter Home on it.
What's your suggestion for the Question of the Day?
Inspired by Princesskasren.
What song moves you to tears or to pure joy?
What day in your life changed your life forever?
Have you ever regretted doing something and been able to make up for it?
I used to host a morning show. Thinking up questions everyday for close to five years was alternately a pain, an exercise in creativity, and occasionally futile. On days when my partner and I couldn't come up with anything stupid - "why do we shiver when we pee?" - or brilliant - "what question would you like us to ask?" - we would employ a classic technique to get people to call in - give away free stuff or actually take in and play requests.
Worked like a charm all the time.
I miss those days. Sometimes. Thank God Vox lets me unleash this part of me that's still there in our booth sitting in front of the console with buttons, sliders and a big old mic.
Now if only my partner would get with the program and start b-l-o-g-g-i-n-g instead of being a rock star...
Have you ever purchased something from an infomercial?
Submitted by Colleen.
Yes. *covers face in shame with hands* TWICE! *shouts into hands*.
Bought some stupid scent pen that was supposed to suppress appetites.... (WHAT IN THE...?!) I wasn't thinking. It was an impulse. Not only did it not work, it dried up after a week! Rip off!
Did this waste of money stop me from ever making another purchase after the "Call now!" started flashing on the screen after sitting through two-minutes of product pushing?
No.
Later that same year I bought a pseudo treadmill. A contraption for stationary walking - two pedals hanging from metal rods attached to a treadmill-like frame. It worked fine until ten-minutes into a workout when it would give off this high-pitched screech similar to the sound of nails on a chalkboard. The torment! The shame! The whole neighborhood was alerted to when I was on that thing. SCREEEECH-SCREEEECH-SCREEEECH. No amount of grease, or WD-40 or oil could get it to shut up.
So I sold it at a garage sale.
Don't own a tv set these days (not because of these two episodes in my life) but I still come across products sold "exclusively" through tv at department stores in the Philippines. Complete with salesperson wearing a funky headset mic doing a live demo on the products. Have I bought anything this way? A cheap steam iron that does the trick.
What is one of your favorite poems?

I have tarried in this village long,
spent time to touch the flowers,
smell the brown earth under my soles,
establish roots and relations,
promises and obligations,
that now it is not easy to leave.
Not that I have not enjoyed my stay,
for this is a place pleasant
with kinship and laughter,
comfort and pleasure
for an honest soul who knows
where to find such things.
But these feet are dressed in walking
shoes that, by their nature and mine,
must lift me from place to place
in quest of shapeless destiny though
at every stop the moment has to come
for departure's bell to ring.
The ties wrought here keep me
from quickly heeding journey's call.
Stand your feet still, trekker,
until love and commitment are
satisfied and will set you free
to cross the village gates.
Damn this long lived voyage,
my ecstasy and my curse.
There must be an end to it somewhere,
in blackness or in bliss. While
the finish is unseen, I must
listen to my restless limbs.
No gracious hamlet may hold me,
nor duties chain my heart.
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

It would have to be flying. Which is technically selfish and pretty useless if it's all I could do. But I'd find something super to do with it. Yeah. Flying it is.
